Welcome to the Carnival!

As you might have heard, this game will see you play through
a mysterious figure's journey into a dark, monster-ridden corner
of the Renaissance period, in the Italian city of Venice.

Your journey will weave through horror and comedy, as you meet blood-soaked Masks
come alive for the Carnival to make merry and feast on the flesh of humans.
Your flesh, too, if you're not careful.
But do not let these frightful thespians deter you.
You must see your purpose through, after all, and with your guidance this sombre pilgrim will succeed.
Unless She has anything to say about it.
Well, we shall see.

Now, let us review the essentials.
For starters, let's have a look at the commands and some more  HUD tips:

Arrow keys: move your character at a walking pace.
In vendor and item menus, you can use them to switch between item types
and in dialogues you can use them to switch between options (but you can also use your mouse for that).

Arrow keys+Shift: move your character at a running pace.
You can also use your mouse (see next tip).

Left-click/spacebar: interact with objects or characters.
Select and skip dialogues.
Left-clicking on the terrain will make your character
try to run towards the place you clicked on as fast as it can.
Pressing spacebar next to an open door will close it.

Esc/Ins: go to the player menu.
In vendor menus, go back to previous options.

On Mobile, tap to move and interact with objects and
characters, double tap to interact with choices.
To open the player menu and to go back in
vendor screens, double tap with two fingers.

Last tips: the player menu will allow you to save
your game, look at the items you found to read their description
and usage, and of course use them.

On desktop, if you want to play the game in full-screen, press the F4 key.

Finally, let us warn you.
This game contains horrors both human and inhuman; to some, we are used to
more than others, but that does not make them less odious, revolting, or traumatic.

This story is a fictional reinterpretation of historical events.
Any reference to facts, things, or persons that actually
exist is purely coincidental and entirely unintentional.

This game contains intense and frightening scenes that may be
distressing for some players.
Themes of horror, violence, abuse and psychological distress are present throughout.
Player discretion is advised.

Thanks for your patronage!
We hope that you will enjoy the game as much as we enjoyed making it.
This game was made for the RPG Maker Horror Game Jam 2.

We'll see you at the Carnival.
